Open source handheld console GameGadget launches in January 0

Open source handheld console, GameGadget 1.0 which runs on Linux is set to make its worldwide debut in January 2012, and wants to be the iPod of games.

GameGadget wants gamers to be able to buy legal copies of games via their app store, so they can play all their favorite games with one portable device.

GameGadget offers a secure platform for game developers and publishers, so they can monetize their older and newer games. Publishers can set up digital revenue streams without any hassle, and they can upload their game in its original format. No details yet on how this is possible, I would think this would be a problem since some games can be written in C, C++, ASM, and etc but all of the code might be wrap together.

The system supports game libraries such as SDL and DirectFB which allows for a cross compiling environment. GameGadget will also unveil a tool that allows casual and non-developers to create their own games even if they have no game development experience.

Interested developers can get the documentation, SDK, supported game libraries, and guides by contacting GameGadget.
